SEEING GOD THROUGH THE

EYES OF A MOTHER

5/10/2015

 INTRODUCTION

I           GOD GIVES US BIRTH LIKE A MOTHER

“You deserted the Rock, who fathered you; you forgot the God who gave you birth.” Deuteronomy 32:18

“Moses heard the people of every family wailing, each at the entrance to his tent. The LORD became exceedingly angry, and Moses was troubled. He asked the LORD, ‘Why have you brought this trouble on your servant? What have I done to displease you that you put the burden of all these people on me? Did I conceive all these people? Did I give them birth? Why do you tell me to carry them in my arms, as a nurse carries an infant, to the land you promised on oath to their forefathers?’”  Numbers 11:10-12

II          GOD PROVIDES FOR OUR NEEDS LIKE A MOTHER

“I will extend peace to her like a river, and the wealth of nations like a flooding stream; you will nurse and be carried on her arm and dandled on her knees.” Isaiah 66:12

“Listen to me, O house of Jacob, all you who remain of the house of Israel, you whom I have upheld since you were conceived, and have carried since your birth. Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.” Isaiah 46:3-4

“They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights.” Psalm 36:8

“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?”  Matthew 6:28-30

“Does she not light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it?  And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’  In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”   Luke 15:8b-9

III         GOD TEACHES US LIKE A MOTHER

“Like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, that spreads its wings to catch them and carries them on its pinions.”  Deuteronomy 32:11

“You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself.”  Exodus 19:4

IV        GOD HAS COMPASSION ON US LIKE A MOTHER

“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!”  Isaiah 49:15

For this is what the LORD says… ‘As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you….’” Isaiah 66:13

V         GOD PROTECTS US LIKE A MOTHER

“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!”  Luke 13:34
