May 31 – Sermon Outline

PURSUING A HEART OF WORSHIP

John 4:4-24

5/31/2015

 INTRODUCTION

I         UNDERSTAND THE MEANING OF WORSHIP

A       WORSHIP MEANS HUMBLING OURSELVES

“Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker….”  Psalm 95:6

“Woe to me…!  I am ruined!  For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips…..”  Isaiah 6:5

B       WORSHIP MEANS SERVING THE LORD

“Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.”   Luke 4:8

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.”  Romans 12:1

C       WORSHIP MEANS ADORING THE LORD

“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”  Revelation 4:11

II        APPLY THESE TRUTHS ABOUT WORSHIP

A       MAKE GOD THE OBJECT OF YOUR WORSHIP

“Worshipers the Father seeks.”  (23)

B       BECOME PARTICIPANTS RATHER THAN SPECTATORS

“A time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain or in Jerusalem.  God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit….”  (21)

C       ALLOW YOUR WORSHIP TO ARISE OUT OF YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS

You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know….”  (22)

“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst  Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”  (13-14)

D       WORSHIP IN SPIRIT AND TRUTH

“True worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.” (24)

CONCLUSION

“When the music fades,

All is stripped away, and I simply come

Longing just to bring
Something that’s of worth
That will bless your heart

I’ll bring you more than a song
For a song in itself is not what you have required.
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear;
You’re looking into my heart.

I’m coming back to the heart of worship
And it’s all about you
All about you Jesus.
I’m sorry Lord for the thing I’ve made it
When it’s all about you,
All about you Jesus.”
